Abstract
Alifia, Melinda. 2025. The Effectiveness of Think Pair Share (TPS) Technique to Teach Students’ Speaking Skills at MAN 2 Semarang in the Academic Year 2024/2025. Counselor: Dr. Mashlihatul Umami, S.Pd.I., M.A. Keywords: Think Pair Share (TPS) Technique, Speaking, Descriptive Text The purpose of this research was to determine the profile of students' speaking skills before and after being taught using the Think Pair Share (TPS) technique, and to assess the effectiveness of using the Think Pair Share (TPS) technique in teaching speaking skills of MAN 2 Semarang students in the academic year 2024/2025. This research applied a true-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group design. The participants were 55 students, divided equally into two groups: class X-6 as the experimental group, which received treatment using the TPS technique, and class X-3 as the class control group, which was taught using the lecturing method. Both groups were randomly selected through the spinner website. The data analysis techniques used were Paired Sample T-test and N-Gain. The research findings showed that the mean value of the experiment pre-test was 55.30 lower than the mean value of the post-test of 87.33. While the average value of the control pre-test was 51.57 with a post-test score of 60.86. The N-Gain value of the experiment group was 0.71 (high category), while the N-Gain of the control group was 0.18 (low category). After using the TPS technique, the students’ average score increased by (32.03%), while the control group increased by (8.72%). The experimental group T-table value of 2.056 is lower than the T-test value of 20.790, and the 2-tailed significance value is 0.000 based on statistical analysis. While the control group T-table value of 2.052 is lower than the T-test value of 6.947. This indicates that the use of the Think Pair Share (TPS) technique is an effective technique to teach speaking skills to students.
