Abstract
Herlambang, Septian Dika. 2025. The Effectiveness of ELSA Speak Application in Mastering English Speaking Skills at SMP Negeri 2 Tengaran (A Pre-Experimental Studies of The Ninth Grade Students at SMP Negeri 2 Tengaran, Semarang Regency). A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Islamic University of Salatiga. Counselor : Miftachudin, S.Pd.I., MA. English speaking skill is one of the essential competencies that students must master to communicate effectively in global interactions. However, many students still struggle with pronunciation, fluency, and confidence when speaking English. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the ELSA Speak application in improving English speaking skills among ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Tengaran, Semarang Regency. This research used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design employing one group pre-test and post-test. The population of this research was all ninth-grade students, and one class consisting of 30 students was selected as the sample through cluster sampling. The data were collected using speaking tests and analyzed by employing a paired sample t-test. The findings revealed that the students’ mean score increased from 51.27 in the pre-test to 63.77 in the post-test, indicating a 13-point improvement. The result of the t-test showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of <0.001, which is lower than 0.05, meaning that there was a significant difference between students’ speaking performance before and after the treatment. It indicates that the use of ELSA Speak application effectively improved students’ pronunciation accuracy, fluency, and confidence in speaking English. Therefore, it can be concluded that the ELSA Speak application is effective in enhancing students’ English speaking skills. Key Words: ELSA Speak, speaking skills, effectiveness
