Abstract

This study entitled “An Item Analysis on the Score of English Summative Test at the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Islam Sudirman Ampel in the Academic Year of 2024/2025” aims to determine the quality of English summative test items in terms of difficulty level, discrimination power, and distractor efficiency. The research employed a quantitative descriptive method. The data were collected through documentation of students’ answer sheets and analyzed using the ANATES 4.09 program. The results showed that 55% of the items were categorized as difficult, 42.5% as moderate, and only 2.5% as easy. In terms of discrimination power, 52.5% of the items were poor, 20% satisfactory, and 27.5% good. Regarding distractor efficiency, 35% of the items were very good, 10% good, 52.5% satisfactory, and 2.5% poor. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the overall quality of the English summative test items was fair but requires revision and improvement, particularly for items with low discrimination power and high difficulty level, in order to make the test a more reliable and valid instrument for evaluating students’ English proficiency.
