Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) integrated with the interactive media Liveworksheets in boosting students' reading comprehension, specifically in identifying the 5W+1H elements within descriptive texts. Conducted during the 2024/2025 academic year, this was a quasi-experimental study using a non-equivalent control group design. This means, the researcher worked with existing classes rather than randomly assigning students. Using purposive sampling, 68 students were divided into two groups: an experimental class (class VII E) that learned with Liveworksheets under the TBLT approach and a control class (class VII D) that used traditional print-out tasks. Before the intervention, the experimental class had an average pre-test score of 65.44, while the control class scored 60.44. After the intervention, post-test scores significantly increased to 82.79 for the experimental group and 68.24 for the control group. The N-Gain scores showed that the experimental class had a moderate improvement of 51%, while the control class showed a low improvement of 22%. An Independent Samples T-Test on the post-test results confirmed a significant difference between the two groups (sig = 0.000 < 0.05). The mean difference of -14.559 indicates that the use of TBLT with Liveworksheets notably improved students' reading comprehension by identifying 5W+1H elements. Therefore, it can be concluded that Liveworksheets are effective when applied through the TBLT framework to teach reading comprehension of descriptive texts to seventh grade students.
