Abstract

This study was motivated by the condition of parents with mental disorders, which may affect the fulfillment of children's rights within the family. The research focuses on: (1) how children's rights are fulfilled in families with parents who have mental disorders in Semarang City; (2) how the fulfillment of these rights is viewed from the perspective of Islamic Hadhanah law; and (3) how it is analyzed from the perspective of family psychology. This study aims to examine the fulfillment of children's rights in families with mentally ill parents and to analyze it through the perspectives of Hadhanah and family psychology. This research employed a qualitative method with a case study approach. The study was conducted in Pedurungan and Genuk Districts, Semarang City. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving two families with parents diagnosed with schizophrenia who still had children in their developmental years. The findings indicate that children's rights related to caregiving, education, health, and daily needs are generally fulfilled. However, the fulfillment of these rights is largely supported by spouses, grandparents, and extended family members due to the limitations experienced by parents with mental disorders. From the perspective of Hadhanah, child care and education are still maintained, but psychological protection has not been fully optimized because children continue to experience fear and discomfort during parental relapses. From the perspective of family psychology, both secure attachment and insecure attachment patterns were identified. The presence of extended family members plays a significant role in providing a sense of security and supporting children's well-being. Therefore, the fulfillment of children's rights can still be maintained through collective caregiving despite challenges in ensuring children's psychological protection.
