Abstract

Rohmah, Annisa Wakhida. 2018. The Use of Secret Word Game to Improve Writing Skills for the Eighth Grade Students of MTs Ma’arif Darul Aman Pringsurat in the Academic Year of 2017-2018. A Graduating Paper, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, English Education Department, State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. The objectives of the study are: (1) To find out whether implementation secret word game can improve students’ writing skills for 8th grade of MTs Ma’arif NU Darul Amal Pringsurat in the academic year of 2017/2018. (2) To identify how far is the improvement of students’ writing skills after being taught using secret word game with eighth grade of MTs Ma’arif NU Darul Amal Pringsurat in the academic year of 2017/2018. The methodology of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research consisted of two cycles and each cycle consisted of four steps, they were: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subject of this research is VIIIB class, which consists of 32 students.The result of the implementation of secret word game to improve students’ writing skills is successful.It can be seen from the T-test the first cycle and the second cycle is higher than the T-table. The T-table is 2.039. The first cycle, the mean of the post-test is 75,31, it is higher than the mean of the pre- test 61,28. While the T-test is 9,52. In the second cycle, the mean of the post-test is 74.66, it is higher than the mean of the pre- test 63,41. The result of T-test is 10,74. The data shows that the result of the T-test in first cycle and second cycle is higher than the T-table.The improvement of the students writing skills using secret word is significant. It can be seen from the number of students who pass the passing grade in two cycles. The passing grade is 70.The number of the students who pass the passing grade in the post-test cycle I is 72%. While in the second cycle, post-test is 92%.It means that using secret word game can improve the students writing skills.
