Abstract

This research is about the use of example non-example strategy to improve students’ writing ability for the eleventh grade students at SMA N 1 Tuntang in the academic year of 2018/2019. The objective of this research is to measure what extent is the improvement of example non-example strategy to improve students’ writing ability. This research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). It was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four steps. They were planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The researcher took role as an observer who observed everything that happened in the class while the teacher performed CAR for the students in this research. The students’ number in this research was 32 students. The researcher used test, documentation and observation checklist to collect the data. From this research, it can be shown that using example non-example strategy can improve students’ writing ability. This strategy can really successful to improve students’ writing ability especially in writing narrative text for the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Tuntang in the academic year 2018/2019. The students who pass the passing grade were gradually increase from the cycle I and the cycle II. The passing grade of English lesson in SMA N 1 Tuntang is 70. The improvement of the students’ writing ability in narrative text at SMA N 1 Tuntang is significant. It could be seen from the result, that the T-test of cycle I was 8.079 and cycle II was 13.18 was higher than T-table (2.040)/ T-test ˃ T-table, so the result was significance improvement.
