Abstract

Hartatik. 2018. “The Implementation Of REAP(Read, Encode, Annotate, Ponder) Strategy to Improve Students’Reading Comprehension At Eleventh Grade of SMA N O1 Bringin in the Academic Year 2018/2019 ”. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty at State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Dr. Setia Rini, M.Pd. This research is aimed to improve the students’ reading comprehension by implementing the REAP strategy. This research conducted at SMA N 01 Bringin in the academic year 2018/2019 especially in XI MIPA Class. The methodology of this reasearch was classroom action research (CAR). The participants of this research were 32 students. The research consisted of two cycles and each cycle consisted of four steps, they were; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research consisted of two cycles and each cycle of three parts, they were; first part is pre-test, second part is treatment, and third part is post-test. The data collected were qualitative but also supported by quantitative data. The qualitative data were gained through observation, documentation, and test. Meanwhile, the quantitative data was collected from the test. The researcher used SPSS 20.00 for analyzing the test. The results show that the students’ reading comprehension improves significantly. In cycle 1, the students who reach the passing grade in the pre-test 19% and in the post-test 75%. In cycle 2, the students who reach the passing grade in the pre-test 81% and in the post-test 91%. It means that the REAP strategy was successful to improve students' reading comprehension. Meanwhile, on the result of the T-test in cycle 1 and cycle 2 there is less significant improvement, it is shown by the T-test of cycle1 is -7,636 and cycle 2 is -7,246 that is lower than T-table is 1,696.
