Abstract

English Education Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Dr. Sa?adi, M.Ag This research is about an analysis on the use of simple past tense in English recount text made by the tenth grade students of MIPA 1 of SMA Muhammadiyah Plus Salatiga in the academic year of 2018/2019. The objectives of this research were to find out errors of using simple past tense in recount text written by the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Plus Salatiga in the academic year 2018/2019 and to find out the dominant errors made by the students in using simple past tense in recount text written by the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Plus Salatiga in the academic year 2018/2019. The instrument of the research was test and documentation. The research approach was mix descriptive qualitative and quantitative method. The result of this research showed that there are four types of error that occur; error of omission, error of addition, error of misformation and error of misordering. The most dominant errors students made error of misformation with a total 51 errors or 54.26%. It is higher than half of the total of errors made by the students.The Error misformation is related to the use of the wrong form of the morpheme or the structure.
