Abstract

The aims of this research were (1) to find out the implementation of TELLS strategy in improving students’ reading comprehension, and (2) to find out the significant effectiveness of students’ reading comprehension taught by TELLS strategy. This was a classroom action research using TELLS strategy. The data collection method was written test. The methodology of research was classroom action research. The techniques of collecting data was written test to find out the students’ reading comprehension. The research was conducted into 2 cycles. The researcher uses mixes methods to analyze the data which are qualitative and quantitative methods. The findings of this research were (1) the implementation of TELLS strategy in cycle 1 and cycle 2 was good; the teacher taught clearly and she helped the students who having difficulties, and the students followed the meeting enthusiastically and they played an active role in learning process. (2) there was an significant effectiveness of using TELLS strategy in improving students’ reading comprehension. It seen on the mean of students’ score in cycle 2 (62.05) > cycle 1 (48.28). While after using TELLS strategy the students’ score of post-test in cycle 2 (68.39) > cycle 1 (54.56). There was a significant effectiveness of using TELLS strategy, it seen from the t-test which is higher than t-table. t-test in cycle 1 is higher than t-table that is 10.7 > 2.030. While in the cycle 2, the t-test is higher than t-table that is 12.58 > 2.030. The result showed that there is a significant improvement of students reading comprehension after the TELLS strategy was implemented. Keywords: TELLS Strategy, Reading Comprehension.
