Abstract

Abstrak : ABSTRACT Hasyin, Khoirino. Improving students’ ability to write news item text through documentary video (A Classroom Action Research on the Twelfth Grade Students of SMA N 1 Bringin in the Academic Year of 2018/2019). A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies of Salatiga. Conselor: Ruwandi, S.Pd., M.A. The objectives of the study are to describe the implementation of documentary video to improve students’ writing ability in writing news item text and to measure the improvement of students’ writing ability by using video of the twelfth grade students of SMA N 1 Bringin in the academic year of 2018/2019. The methodology of the research was classroom action research. The techniques of collecting data were observation, test and documentation. The result of this research showed that (1) The implementation of Documentary Video to improve students’ writing ability in news item text went on very well. In the process students paid attention, completed the task, asked question, responded question and became enthuistic in learning activities. (2) there was an improvement of students’ writing ability using Documentary Video. It was shown in the result of the research. The mean score of the post test II (74.02) was better than the mean score of cycle I (72.03). The achievement percentage of the post test in cycle I improved from 86, 67% to be 93% also (cycle II). The t-test (5.215) was bigger than t-table (2.042). supporting that documentary video can improve the students’ writing ability.
