Abstract
Imam Sufi Chusni Mubarak. 2019. The Use of English Song Lyric to Improve Students Writing Skills in the Tenth Grade Students of SMK Telekomunikasi Tunas Harapan. A graduating paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Norwanto, S. Pd., M. Hum., Ph. D. The objectives of the study are to find out whether the implementation of English song lyric improving the students’ writing skills in descriptive text and to find out the result of the use English Song Lyric improves the students’ writing skill in descriptive text. This research was conducted in SMK Telekomunikasi Tunas Harapan. The subjects of the research were 28 students of class XA SMK Telekomunikasi Tunas Harapan in the academic year 2018/2019. The method of the research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research consisted of two cycles and each cycle consisted of four steps. They were planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The researcher role as an observer, while the English teacher did the teaching and learning process. The researcher used observation sheet, test, and documentation to collect the data. The implementation of English song lyric helps the students to learnt about pronoun, make the students easier to get the idea, enthusiastic in learning, and gave some inspirations. The result of this research that the use of English song lyric could improve students writing skills in descriptive text. The students’ score of writing by used English song lyric better without used English song lyric. The mean of pre and post-test cycle I are 71.67 become 76.21. The mean of pre-test and post-test cycle II are 76.03 to 80. The target of the passing grade is 75% of the students who pass the passing grade. The percentages the students who pass the passing grade are 7.14% in the pre-test I, 42.85% in the post-test I, 50% in the pre-test II, and 82.14% in the post-test cycle II. It shows that the students’ percentages who get score pass the passing grade of post-test in cycle II is higher than post-test in cycle I. It means that the target was successfully achieve. It could concluded that the use of English song lyric could improving students writing skill in descriptive text. Key Words: Writing; Descriptive text; Song lyric
