Abstract

ABSTRACT Khakim, Muhammad Lutfil. 2019. Improving Students' Achievement in Writing Simple Present Tense through Mind Mapping Technique (A Classroom Action Research at the Eighth Grade of Junior High School Islam Sudirman 2 Tingkir in the Academic Year 2019/2020). A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Noor Malihah, Ph. D. This research was conducted to improve the students' achievement in writing Simple Present Tense through Mind Mapping Technique. The research consisted of two research questions.The first question answered how is the implementation of mind mapping technique improved students' achievement in writing simple present tense. The second one answered how significant the implementation of mind mapping technique improved the students' achievement in writing. This research was designed in Classroom Action Research which consisted of two cycles; cycle I and cycle II. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing, reflecting. From the data that found, the researcher concludes that the implementation of mind mapping technique could improve progressively from cycle 1 to cycle 2. The improvement was showed in each cycle which presented pre-test and post-test. The result of t-test of the cycle 2 was 7.42 which was higher than the t-table: 2.05 with N-1. The passing grade of the English lesson was 75 and the success indicator was 85%. The outcome of the post-test of the cycle 2 was 89.3% of the entire students. The success indicator was achieved, so the researcher stopped the research. Thus, the implementation of mind mapping technique proved that it could improve significantly the students' achievement in writing simple present tense.
