Abstract

ABSTRACT Cahyaningrum, Wahyu. 2019. The Use of Vocabulary Self-collection Strategy to Teach Vocabulary of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMK Muhammadiyah Salatiga. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies of Salatiga. Counselor: Dr. Ruwandi, M.A. The objectives of the study were to know the improvement of students’ vocabulary skill before and after the students were taught by Vocabulary Self-collection Strategy and to know the significant improvement of students’ vocabulary skill before and after the students were taught by Vocabulary Self-collection Strategy of the eleventh grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah Salatiga in the academic year of 2019/2020. The methodology of research was pre-experiment research. The techniques of collecting data were written test ( pre-test and post-test) to know the students’ vocabulary scores before and after being taught by Vocabulary Self-collection Strategy. Students did pre-test and post-test. It was analyzed by using SPSS 16.0 for windows. The result of pre-test and post-test showed that there was a significant improvement. The writer found that the eleventh grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah Salatiga had improvement mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean students’ pre- test score was 4.9. The mean students’ post-test score was 7.9. In addition, the t-test value was 10.904 which was higher than t-table was 1.6972. It means that there was significant improvement of students’ vocabulary skill. Therefore, it concluded that using VSS was proven to teach vocabulary of the eleventh grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah Salatiga.
