Abstract

ABSTRACT : Subekti, Diyas Fitra Tri. 2019. The Study of Lecturers’ and Students’ Perception on the Implementation of Character Education in Cross Cultural Understanding Class in the Academic Year 2018/2019. A Graduating Paper of English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Faizal Risdianto, S.S., M. Hum. Keywords: Perception; Character education, Cross Cultural Understanding The research aims are to find out lecturers’ and students’ perception on the implementation of character education in Cross Cultural Understanding class in IAIN Salatiga. The methodology of research was qualitative research especially descriptive qualitative. The procedure of data collection contains several steps. Firstly, the researcher conducted interview to collect data from the informants and documentation. Second, the researcher looked for a variable like notes, transcribes, books, newspapers, magazines, etc. the researcher not only used notes but also took photographs and recorded videos by using his smartphone as the evidence of learning activity in Cross-Cultural Understanding Class during the interview. Then the researcher represented those data. The result of the study shows some lecturers’ and students’ perception on the implementation of character education in Cross Cultural Understanding class. Lecturers tended to slip the noble values in every activity that good character, behavior, attitude, and mentality in students’ selves can be built consciously or unconsciously. Then, 6 of 9 students of CCU class in IAIN Salatiga felt so satisfied with the implementation of character education in CCU class, while the other 3 students were not. The researcher found 6 supporting factors in implementing character education in Cross Cultural Understanding class in IAIN Salatiga and 3 inhibiting factors.
