Abstract

ABSTRACT Muna, Badriatul Kunti. 2019. Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension of Recount Text Through Question Answer Relationship (QAR) Strategy in the Academic Year of 2018/2019. A Graduating Paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Dr. Ruwandi, S.Pd., M.A. Keywords: Reading Comprehension; QAR Strategy. The aims of this researh are (1) to find out the implementation of QAR strategy to improve students reading comprehension of the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 3 Salatiga in the Academic Year of 2018/2019, (2) to find out whether QAR strategy can improve in reading comprehension of the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 3 Salatiga in the Academic Year of 2018/2019. The methodology of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects of this research were thirty one students of X class of SMK Negeri 3 Salatiga. The research consisted of two cycles, and each cycle consisted of four steps, they were: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The researcher used SPSS 16.00 for analyzing the test. The results of this research showed that (1) the implementation was good that almost all students paid attention to the material given and enjoyed the learning process, (2) the improvement was proven because: in cycle 1, the mean of pre-test were 54.19 with 3% of students who passed the criteria of passing grade and the mean of post-test were 63.55 with 19% students who could pass the criteria of passing grade. The result of post-test in cycle II showed that there were 84% students who passed the criteria of passing grade with the mean 79.29. Furthemore, the result of t-test calculation in cycle I was 5.381 and cycle 2 were 13.723. These results indicate that the implementation of QAR strategy improved students’ reading comprehension.
