Abstract

ABSTRACT Dian Kusuma. 2019. The Analysis of Figurative Language in Amir Ali’s English Translation of Al-Qur’an Surah Al-Kahf About the Story of Prophet Musa and Al Khidr. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Dr. H. Sa’adi, M.Ag. This study is aimed to analyze figurative language in the English translation of Al-Qur’an surah Al-Kahf verse 60 up to 82. There are research problems proposed of the “surah Al-kahf verse 60 up to 82”. What kinds of figurative language are found in English translation of the surah, and what is the dominant of figurative language found in English translation of surah Al-Kahf verse 60 up to 82. The writer used library research to collect the data. The writer also looked for other information that is relevant and appropriate with the research problem. Based upon the analysis and discussion of the research results, the writer can make conclusion that there are seven kinds of figurative language in English translation of surah Al-Kahf, they are Simile 1 (7.1%), Symbol 1 (7.1%), Synecdoche 2 (14.3%), Metonymy 4 (28.6%), Repetition 2 (14.3%), Antithesis 2 (14.3%), and Alliteration 2 (14.3%). The most dominant of figurative language is metonymy consist of 4 sentences. It is the highest number in the percentage of 28.6%. Key Words: Figurative Language, Translation, Al-Qur’an, Surah Al-Kahf.
