Abstract

ABSTRACT Maula, Laili Qurbatul. 2019. Speech Acts Study on Twitter Comments of the United Nations Speech Video about Youth and Self-Acceptance Delivered by RM (Kim Namjoon) of BTS (Beyond The Scene). The objectives of this research are to find the types of speech acts that present in the comments and the dominant type used by twitter user in the comments. This research generally answers two questions as: (1) What are the types and categories of speech act theory that used by the twitter users in the comment section? and (2) What is the dominant type and category of the speech act theory that used in the comment? The method of this research is a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach which analysed the data with several theories. The data of this research are twitter comments of the United Nations speech video about youth and self-acceptance delivered by RM of BTS. The researcher found that all category of speech act (LD, ND, LI and NI) are present. From analysed 427 sentences, Literal and Direct (LD) is the dominant type as it takes 53.8% (230 sentences) of whole data. Declarative Form is the dominant syntactic form used in the comments with 88% (376 sentences) of entire comments. There are 25 labels of Direct illocutionary acts and 36 labels of Indirect illocutionary acts found in the data. Dominant direct illocutionary acts in the comments is the act of giving information with 196 out of 427 sentences or 46.1%. Meanwhile, the dominant type for indirect illocutionary acts is the act of praising with 93 out of 427 sentences or 21.8% of total data. Keywords: Pragmatics; Speech Acts Study.
