Abstract

This research focused on the effectiveness of Number Heads Together technique and picture media to improve writing skills for seventh grade students of MTs Negeri 2 Kota Magelang. The objectives of the research are: (1) To find out the effectiveness of Number Heads Together technique and picture media and (2) to find out the significant effectiveness of using Number Heads Together technique and picture media to improve the students’ writing skills of descriptive text for seventh-grade students of MTs Negeri 2 Kota Magelang in the academic year of 2018/ 2019. The methodology of the research was quantitative research especially quasi-experimental research. the subject of the research is two classes of seventh grade students of MTs Negeri 2 Kota Magelang. It consists of 54 students. The data was collected through pre-test and post-test to find out the students’ writing skills of descriptive text, observation sheet to get the information of real interaction in the classroom, and documentation to strengthen the observation sheet. The data was tested by using Independent Sample T-Test in SPSS version 24.0. The mean of pre-test is 65.44 and the mean of post-test is 78.44. the differences between pre-test and post-test mean are 13.00 points. The result of SPSS showed that sig. (2 tailed) 0.013. the rule is if sig. (2 tailed) < 0.05. So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Therefore, there was significantly different to improve writing skills using Number Heads Together technique and picture media. It means that Number Heads Together technique and picture media was effective for students’ writing skills. Key words: Number Heads Together Technique; Picture Media; Writing Skills
