Abstract

This study aims atdescribing English structure found in comic strip. There are three objective of theresearch, namely: 1) To find out the structures of English sentences used iu dailycomic strip issued by Kompas in May 2009, 2) To find out the types of thesentences used in daily comic strip issued by Kompas in May 2009, J) Todescribe the structural meanings of the sentences. After investigating the Englishsentences used in daily comic strip issued by Kompas in May 2009, the writerfound several findings as follows: 1) seven patterns used in daily comic stripissued by Kompas in May 2009; they are S+P, S+P+O, S+P+o+ Adv, S+P+O+C,S+P+C, S+P+C+Adv, and S+P+DO+Prep+IO, 2) four kinds of sentences basedon the type of sentence by purpose; they are declarative, interrogative, imperativeand exclamatory sentences. And three kinds of sentences based on theconstruction, the kind and number of clauses; they are simple, compound, andcomplex sentences; 3) Based on the structural meaning, the writer tries to explainthe data displayed in lexical meaning and function of word, phrase or sentence.This graduating paper is not absolutely perfect, so she completely receives allconstructive criticism. However, the writer expects that is able tc1 contribute thescience of linguistic and able to be guidance for her and all readers.
