Abstract

The environment is the place where people live and have a relationshipwith their society. Their environments also can influence their personality. Thefinal project tells us how important the environment as the basic factor ofsearching a personality.This study deals with the humiliation in the environment that influencesthe figures' character personality, namely Hester Prynne in Nathaniel HawthorneThe Scarlet Letter. The final project is aimed at analyzing the influence of socialenvironment to the figures' character.The data collecting method is library research. The primary data are takenfrom the novel it self, while the secondary data are taken from some articles andinternet website related the novel. The data analyzing is descriptive analysis.The outcome of the study in the novel is, Nathaniel Hawthorne illustrateshow the figures' character faces the various humiliation and suffering from theenvironment, which have bad and good values that influence the figures' characterdevelopment becomes good personality.
