Abstract

Vocabulary is one of the most important elements in learning foreignlanguage. Vocabulary also cannot be separated from other elements. Having kindsof vocabulary is needed to master all of language skill. Poor of vocabulary can bethe major cause of failure to be successful in learning English. For elementarystudents vocabulary is the first elements must be introduced for them. Vocabularyin which given by students must be appropriate and needed for them.The writer is applying quantitative approach in order to measure students'improvement in vocabulary mastery. In the research finding shows that the meanof pre-test and post-test in every cycle is improved. From 14 students 74, 5 %show an improvement on vocabulary mastery, only 14, 5 % decrease their resultof vocabulary, and only 11 % constant their vocabulary mastery. It could beconclude that story telling can be one of the interesting methods in teachingvocabulary for children.In this case the writer would like to emphasize the interesting method inteaching vocabulary in which appropriate for children. The method is story telling.It can improve student's motivation and their vocabulary mastery. Stories includeideas, objective, passage, and useful words in which needed for students. So, theyinterested to take part in learning vocabulary. There are some advantages byapplying story telling such as; cultivates imagination and mediation, helps withformation of listening skill, furnishes the time for creative expression, stimulatesinterest and learning, provides a close contact with the students.
