Abstract

In creating sentence, word order held an important role to make thesentence can be understood. If the words in a sentence are in the wrong order, thesentence won't make sense. So, it is important for foreign language learners to putthe word in the right order. Therefore, this study that entitle " An Error Analysisof Word Order Used in Recount Text Made by Students at Tenth Grade of MANI Kota Magelang Academic Year of 2013/20 I 4" is purposed to analyze the kindsof word order error in sentence and phrase made by students and the factors thatcause this error. To analyze the data the writer used descriptive qualitativemethod and used error analysis procedure to make clear the explanation. Theparticipants of this study consist of 73 students who came from X3 and X4 classesof tenth grade of MAN 1 Kola Magelang academic year of 2013/2014. The resultof the study indicated that 80% of respondent committed word order error eitherin constructing the sentence or distributing the word in noun phrase. Inconstructing sentence, word order errors are visible in the omission of subject,predicate or object and the wrong composition of sentence constituent. Whereas inword order distribution, the error occurred in the arrangement of modifierheadnoun. Beside that, according to the questionnaire, the dominant factor that causedthe error is carelessness in which the students still confuse and do not havemotivation to learn English.+
