Abstract

ABSTRACT Kusuma, Nugraha Panji. 2019. Analysis of the Grammatical Error in Writing Recount Text at the Tenth-Grade Students of SMA Islam Sudirman Ambarawa in the Academic Year of 2019/2020. A graduating paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Sari Famularsih, S. Pd. M. A. The objectives of the study are: (1) to know the grammatical errors in writing recount text made by the tenth grade students of SMA Islam Sudirman Ambarawa in the Academic Year of 2019/2020. (2) to know the sources of errors in writing recount text made by the tenth grade students of SMA Islam Sudirman Ambarawa in the Academic Year of 2019/2020. (3) to know the percentages of each error types made by the tenth-grade students of SMA Islam Sudirman Ambarawa in the Academic Year of 2019/2020. The methodology of research was qualitative. The technique of data collection was document analysis technique. The subjects of the research are 29 students of X MIPA 3. The writer found that from the types of error proposed by Betty S. Azar, the researcher found every one of them. The most dominant error is verb tense error with 33,88%. It is followed by add a word with 18,13%. Punctuation error with 10,07%, word choice error with 8,61%, omit a word with 5,49%, capitalization error with 5,31%, word form error with 5,31%, word order error with 3,66%, singular-plural error with 3,66%, spelling error with 2,75%, article error with 1,10%, incomplete sentence error with 0,92%, run on sentence error with 0,55% and the last error is meaning not clear error with 0,55%. The sources of the errors found according to J. C. Richard theory are mostly intralingual error with 68% and followed by interlingual error with 32%.
