Abstract

This research was conducted in order to find out politeness strategies used on comments Indonesians’ Politicians Twitter Account. The first objective of this research is finding out the kinds of politeness strategies used by the netizen in Indonesians’ Politicians Twitter account and the second objective is finding out the dominant type of the politeness strategies that used on comments Indonesians’ Politicians twitter account. Those two objectives are analyzed by using Brown and Levinson’s theory of politeness strategy. In this research, the researcher used qualitative research as the research method in this study. The data of this study are comments taken from Twitter users that is comments of five politicians tweet about Covid-19 virus. Those are Joko Widodo, Ganjar Pranowo, Fahri Hamzah, Fadli Zon, and Anies Baswedan. The data were gotten from comments of Twitter users. The data collection of this study are observing and documenting. The researcher follow some Twitter account of Indonesians’ Politicians, then read and collect the comment that used politeness strategy, and the last transcribing all the politeness strategies used on comments. To obtain the data, the researcher uses screenshoot comment from Indonesians’ Politicians Twitter account. Finally, in analyzing and interpreting the data, the researcher followed Miles and Huberman’s steps of data analysis, they are: 1) Data Reduction, 2) Data Display, 3) Data Verification/Conclusion. From the data analysis, it can be concluded that in comments of Indonesians’ Politicians Twitter account, there are four Politeness Strategies used. The researcher took 15 comments from each twitter account, so there are 75 comments in total. There were 15 Bald on Record, 12 Positive Politeness, 10 Negative Politeness, and 38 Off Record found from netizens’ comments. From the analysis researcher found out that netizens used Off Record more than other strategies, it means that the dominant type of Politeness Strategy used is Off Record. And the Off Record strategy that is often used on comments are Strategy 4 (Overstate), Strategy 7 (Use contradiction), and Strategy 8 (Be ironic).
