Abstract
The main purposes of this research is to investigate the teacher and the students talk categories during classroom interaction and the most dominant categories used by the teacher and the students during classroom interaction based on Flander’s Interaction Analysis Categories System (FIACS). Moreover this research used descriptive qualitative design. The subject of this research were English teacher and students at the second year of MTs N 1 Kendal. The instruments for data collection were observation, video recording and field note. The result showed all of the categories used in teaching and learning process. The most dominant category used by the teacher was lecturing, while the most dominant category used by the students was students talk response. From the result, the researcher conclude that the verbal interaction in the classroom structured by both; teacher and students but dominates by the teacher.
