English Education Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Norwanto Ph.D. Keywords: Pragmatic, Speech Act, Non-literal The objectives of the study are (1) to know how many utterance of non-literal speech acts in the comment section of Shawn Mendes’ Instagram account?. (2) What are the meaning of non-literal speech acts in the comment section of Shawn Mendes’ Instagram account?. The method of this research was a qualitative approach and descriptive-analytic. The data were analyzed using several theories ,namely the theory of non-literal speech act study. The object of this study were words, phrases, clauses, and/or sentences on the comment section of Shawn Mendes’ Instagram account which discussed the failure of the Shawn Mendes concert in Brazil. The result of the research shows that there were 11 utterances which contains non-literal speech act and the clarification process in the comment section of Shawn Mendes’ Instagram account. The person expressed their disappoinment through compliment, so that someone can say a compliment which is intended to criticize through non-literal speech act.
