Abstract

Finajah, Aghniyau.2020."Pre-service Teacher Perception anout Students' Motivation in the Process of Learning English (A Descriptive Qualitative Study of the English Students of English Education Department at IAIN Salatiga in the Academic Year 2019/2020)" A Graduating Paper, English Education Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Hammam, M.Pd., Ph.D. This research aims to know the pre-service teacher perception about students’ motivation in the process of learning English and types of motivation that students have. This research generally answers two questions such as (1) how is the pre-service teacher perception about students’ motivation in the process of learning English? (2) what kinds of motivation that found in the process of learning English according to pre-service teacher perception? The data was collected through interview. There were ten of eighth semester students of English Education Department of IAIN Salatiga who have already been in Teaching Practice Program participated in this research. Since this research explores the pre-service teacher perceptions and students’ motivation in the process of learning English, qualitative approach is considered as an appropriate approach and descriptive as type of research. The result of this research was analyzed and presented descriptively in order to reveal the pre-service teacher perception and students’ motivation. The researcher found that the pre-service teacher perception is wide-ranging. It is a positive perception and the students have high motivation in the process of learning English. The intrinsic and extrinsic motivation are found as dominant motivation of learning English for the students Key words: Pre-service teacher, perception, motivation
