Abstract

The purposes of this research are to find the types of translation shifts that occur on the students’ translation and to find the combination of translation shift in the students’ translation. The participants are thirty persons of batch 2019 students from the Translating English-Indonesian course. This research focuses on five types of translation shifts. The methodology of this research is qualitative research and applied a descriptive qualitative method that produces data of humans’ written form. The data are collected by documentation and interview using the online platform. The procedures for analyzing the data are identifying translation shifts from students’ translation, making coding, and drawing the conclusion. From the analysis, there are five types of translation shifts on 453 data, level shift (6%), structure shift (21%), class shift (23%), unit shift (22%), and intra-system shift (28%). Besides, there are four combinations of translation shifts form 148 data, structure shift and unit shift (13%), structure and intra-system shift (32%), class and unit shit (35%), unit shift, and intra-system shift (20%).
