Abstract

ABSTRACT Hidayah, Mifhariyatil. 2019. Using RAFT Strategy in Narrative Text to Improve Students Writing Skill For the Eighth Grade of MTS Al-Uswah Bergas in the Academic year 2019/2020.A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor:s Dr. H.Sa’adi, M.Ag. This research conducted to find out the implementation and to measure the extent of the improvement using RAFT strategy in narrative text to improve students’ writing skill for the eighth grade students of MTS Al-Uswah Bergas in the academic year 2019/2020. The participants of this research were 30 students. The method of this research was classroom action research. The research consisted of two cycles and each cycles consisted of four steps, they were; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research consisted of two cycles and each cycles of two parts, such as; pre-test and post test. The data collected were qualitative but also supported by quantitative data. The qualitative data were gained through observation and documentation. Meanwhile, the quantitative data was collected from the test. The researcher used SPSS 16.00 for analyzing the test. The researcher finds that there is an improvement on students’ writing skill after using RAFT strategy in cycle I and cycle II. It can be seen from the cycle I up to the cycle II. In the cycle I, the mean of post-test is higher than the mean of the pre-test. The mean of post-test 64.30 and pre-test are 59.20. In the cycle II, the meant of post-test is higher than the meant of the pre-test. The mean post-test is 72.93 and pre-test are 66.93. the improvement of students writing skill using RAFT strategy is significant. The significance can be seen from T-test. The result of T-test in cycle I is 5.749 and cycle II is 8.146. Moreover, the t-test the cycle II is bigger than t-test cycle I. from the result, the researcher concluded that using RAFT strategy can significantly improved the eighth-grade students’ skill in writing at MTS Al-Uswah Bergas.
