Abstract

ABSTRACT Hiba Putra Prasetyo. 2020. The Effectiveness of Using Somatic Auditory Visual Intellectual (SAVI) Method to Teach Students Writing skill (An Experimental Study of Seventh Grade of SMP N 2 Pabelan in the Academic Year of 2020/2021).A graduating paper.English Education Department.Teacher Training and Education Faculty.State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga.Conselor: Dr. Mashlihatul Umami, S. The objectives of the research were to find out the profile ofthe students’ writing skillbefore and after implementing SAVI method and to measure how is the effectiveness of the application for the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Pabelan in the academic year of 2020/ 2021. This research was a quasi-experimental research. The techniques of collecting data were test and documentation. There were two kinds of test which were used, those were pre-test and post-test. The subjects of this research were two classes of the seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Pabelan. It considered 66 students. Then,the data was tested using t-test formula by comparing the mean score of pre- and post-test from both classes. The significance level was settled up 5%. The result of the research showed that, first, the students’ profiles were different before and after implementing SAVI method. The mean of pre-test was 77.58 while the mean of post-test was 91.39. The difference between preandpost-test mean was 13.81. Second, the result showed that t-test (to) 6.63 was higher than t-table (tt) 2.0369 with the degree of freedom (df) 32. Therefore, there was significant difference after implementing SAVI methodtoward students’ writing skill. Moreover, the effect size of experiment class was 1.33 which showed that using SAVI method gave strong effect on students’ writing skill. Keyword: SAVI method, descriptive text, writing skill
