Abstract
ABSTRACT Eka, Rizki. 2020. “The Use of Idea Web to Improve Reading Comprehension Skills of Seventh Grade Students In Smp Negeri 9 Salatiga In Academic Years 2019/2020” A Graduating Paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Dr. Setia Rini, M.Pd. The objectives of the study are: (1) To find out the implementation of reading skills of the students by using idea web for seventh grade students in SMP Negeri 9 Salatiga in academic years 2019/20200.(2) To know how far is the improvement of using idea web to improve English reading comprehension skills for seventh grade students in SMP Negeri 9 Salatiga in academic years 2019/2020. The methodology of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research consisted of two cycles and each cycle consisted of four steps, they were: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subject of this research was 29 students of VII-E class of SMP Negeri 9 Salatiga. The data collected were qualitative but also supported by quantitative data. The qualitative data were gained through observation and documentation. The data were in the form field notes, observation checklist, and photographs. Meanwhile, the quantitative data was collected from the test. The researcher used SPSS based on 20.00 for analyzing the test. The result of this research shows that (1)The implementation of using idea web as method in reading comprehension skills of the seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 9 Salatiga was done in two cycles. The passing grade is 76. (2) the improvement of using idea web is significant. It can be seen in the cycle I up to the cycle II. The result of the cycle I, the mean of pre-test is lower than the mean of the post-test. The mean of pre-test is 32,41 and the mean of post-test are 51,03. In the cycle II, the mean of pre-test is lower than the mean of post-test. The mean of pre-test is 72,06 and the mean of post-test are 88,27. The result of t-test in cycle I is 12,032, and cycle 2 are 11,258. After calculating the students’ score, the researcher found that the value of T-test was 11,258. The value of T-test was higher than Ttable. It means there was significant improvement. In this research, the researcher used significant level 0,05%. The value of T-table was 2,0484. From the result, the researcher concluded that using idea web can improve the seventh grade students English reading comprehension skill at SMP Negeri 9 Salatiga because the the students have increased score.
