Abstract

Putri, Laily. 2020. An Analysis of Onomatopoeia: Types and Readers’ Opinion to The Importance of The Onomatopoeia in Doraemon Comic Series. A Graduating Paper.English Education Department.Teacher Training and Education Faculty.State Institute for Islamic Studies of Salatiga. Counselor: Nur Muthmainnah, S. Pd.I., M.Pd. This research aims to 1) describe the types of onomatopoeia used in Doraemon Comic; 2) describe the comparation between lexical and contextual meaning of the onomatopoeic words; 3) describe readers’ opinion to the important of the onomatopoeia. The objects of the study are the types of the onomatopoeia and readers’ opinion to the importance of the onomatopoeia in Doraemon comic. The data of this research are the onomatopoeic words used in the comic and the readers’ opinion to the importance of the onomatopoeia. The researcher used Doraemon comic series vol 4 with 14 chapters. There were 7 participants who were given 2 chapters from the comic. The researcher used documentation and questionnaire to collect the data. The result shows that there are 76 onomatopoeic words in the comics. There are 41 direct onomatopoeia, 32 associative onomatopoeia, and 3 exemplary onomatopoeia. The comparation between lexical meanings and contextual meanings of the onomatopoeic words are similar. The readers’ opinion to theimportance of onomatopoeia; 1) the onomatopoeia can express sounds, movements, feelings, emotions, and other aspects. 2) the onomatopoeia was used to make the story more alive; 3) the onomatopoeia gives more expressive and impression of the story; 4) the onomatopoeia arouse the readers’ imagination and certain feeling to understand the whole story in Doraemon comic.
