Abstract

Teaching is not only about knowledge and cognition but also emotional relationships among teacher and students. Particularly for teaching English in Salatiga and Semarang, there are several challenges that should be handled: geographical feature of these area, their culture, the quality of both students and teachers, and so on. This research paper investigates teacher emotions experienced by EFL teachers in Salatiga and Semarang while dealing with those challenges. This research will explore comprehensively the distance and closeness felt by the teacher while teaching English in Salatiga and Semarang. This qualitative research was conducted using an educational ethnography research. The data were collected from journal and interview. Referring to the Hargreaves framework, the findings reveal 5 emotional geographies of the participants' interviews.The findings of this research presented four of them; physical, sociocultural, political geography and professional geography. The writer hopes that the results of this research can be used as the reference for those who want to conduct a research in the EFL class to build students’ achievement and performance, teacher-students interaction through emotional geography understanding and analysis. Additionally, it may also be used to refer researchers to further research.
