Abstract

This study aims to know learners? perception and motivation in joining speaking and sharing knowledge programs at EEC Semarang. The objectvies of study were (1) To understand learners? perception in joining Speaking and Sharing Knowledge Programs at EEC (Easy English Club) Semarang. (2) To know the learners? motivations in joining Speaking and Sharing Knowledge Programs at EEC (Easy English Club) Semarang. The data is collected through questionnaire and interview. There are 16 learners of EEC Semarang participated in this research. This research investigates the learners' perception and motivation which come from the learners' experiences, qualitative approach is considered as an appropriate approach and descriptive as type of research. This writer has found that learners? have a positive perception of English club based the influence of EEC programs to improve their English language skills, the most significant component of speaking to start learning English, and learners? perception of the disadvantage of joining English club. Then, learners have two motivation in learning English those are extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. Some learners who have extrinsic motivation stated that finding positive atmosphere and communal interest in English, expecting appreciation from others, and learning English to fulfill obligations. Some learners who have intrinsic motivation stated that learning English for desiring to succeed in the future, increasing learners experiences, fellowship and knowledge, and improving fluency in speaking.
