Abstract
The purpose of the study was to investigate the EFL teachers' perceptions and challenges on the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in language learning, especially English Language Learning. The research was qualitative research. The subjects were five English teachers among senior high schools under Yayasan Pusat Pendidikan Islam Sudirman (YAPPIS) in Ambarawa. Questionnaire, interview, and documentation were used to collect the data. The data was analyzed and interpreted through qualitative procedure. The findings indicated that the teachers had positive perceptions on the use of ICT in language learning such as improving effectiveness and efficiency in language learning, increasing students’ enthusiasm in language learning, improving students’ achievement, encouraging the teacher to make creative lesson that interest students, and highly needed in language learning. However, in applying ICT in language learning, there were challenges that teachers faced. The challenges such as insufficient ICT facilities, low quality ICT devices, insufficient people who mastering ICT, difficulty in determining the appropriate ICT for students, lack of time, as well as teachers’ negative attitude towards utilizing ICT in language learning were found out in this study.
