Abstract

Kautsar, Wizurai Ikbar. 2020. An Error Analysis of Affixes in Regular and Irregular Verbs in Recount Text Written by the Eleventh Grade Students of SMK Negeri 2 Salatiga in the Academic Year 2020/2021. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Counselor: Hanung Triyoko, S.S., M.Hum., M.Ed. Keywords: Errors, Regular & Irregular Verbs, Affixes, Recount Text The purpose of this research is to know about regular and irregular verbs forming in past context. At least, there are five verbs forms, such as: (1) root, (2) present participle, (3) third-person singular, (4) past, and (5) past participle. Those forms can be changed depends on what morpheme that added at the end of the verbs. This research’s participants were the eleventh-grade students of Architect Department A Class contained of 35 students. To collect their data, the researcher used qualitative research since the research methods are test and documentation (to analyze the students’ error task) and the research instrument is Google Form. After doing research, the researcher found 328 errors of regular and irregular verbs, then concluded that the most common error is Misformation errors with 239 items and 72.86%, while the lowest error is Misordering errors with 11 items and 3.34%. So, it can be concluded that some of the students didn’t understand and couldn’t distinguish kinds of verbs forms. Besides, some of them also still don’t memorize all of regular and irregular verbs yet while writing their personal text (recount text).
