Abstract

ABSTRACT Riwayatiningsih, Nur. 2020. An Analysis of English and Javanese Request Patterns Dialogues Composed by Students of SMP Negeri 5 Salatiga in the Academic Year 2020/2021. A Graduating Paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Hammam, Ph.D. Keywords: Pragmatics, English & Javanese Patterns, Request The objective of this research was to find out types and most frequent of English and Javanese request patterns used in dialogues. This research’s participants were the eighth-grade students contained of 20 students. To collect their data, the researcher used qualitative since the research methods are test and documentation (to analyze the students’ request words) and the research instruments is Google Form. The result showed that, there are four types of English language patterns, such as (1) Modal Auxiliary types with 10 frequencies, (2) Imperative sentences types with 5 frequencies, (3) Declarative sentences types with 2 frequencies and (4) the Verbs-First Category with 2 frequencies and six types of Javanese language patterns, such as (1) Imperatif Suruhan (Order) with 5 frequencies, (2) Imperatif Ajakan (Invitation) with 5 frequencies, (3) Imperatif Permintaan (Request) with 4 frequencies, (4) Imperatif Bujukan (Persuasion) with 2 frequencies, (5) Imperatif Larangan (Prohibition) types with 1 frequency and (6) Imperatif Anjuran (Suggestion) types with 1 frequency.
