Abstract

This research is aimed to describe the types of authentic assessment applied on reading comprehension by the teachers at MAN Sukoharjo in the academic year 2021/2022, the obstacles faced by teachers in implementing authentic assessment on reading comprehension, and the solutions offered by teachers in implementing authentic assessment on reading comprehension for the eleventh grade students at MAN Sukoharjo in the academic year 2021/2022. This study is descriptive qualitative research. Data collection techniques in this study are observation, interview, and documentation. The result of this research shows that (1) the types of authentic assessment used on reading comprehension at eleventh grade students in MAN Sukoharjo are oral interview, text retelling, constructed response item, and portfolio. (2) The obstacles faced by the teachers in applying authentic assessment on reading comprehension for eleventh grade students at MAN Sukoharjo, are limited time to manage the assessment instrument preparation, lack of readiness on online learning habit, inability in acquiring English skills, and lack of attractive learning activity.(3) The solutions conducted by teachers to tackle their obstacles are sharing material and providing consultation, using more attractive media, providing interesting material, and improving students’ language ability and knowledge.
