Abstract

The purposes of this study are to identify the profile of students’ writing skills in writing greeting card in the private junior high school in Salatiga, to identify the profile of students’ writing skills in writing greeting card in the state junior high school in Salatiga, and to compare between students' writing skills in writing greeting card in private and state schools in Salatiga. The research method used in this study is the comparative analysis. In this study, there are 52 samples divided into two, consist of 26 students from private school and 26 students from state schools. Researcher collect the data using documentation which consist of students’ work in writing greeting card assignment. The researcher then analyzed the data using the writing skills rubric from Brown and Biley (1984). The result that researcher found from this study can be concluded in three findings, there are: the profile of students’ writing skills in writing greeting card from the private school shows that the total score for organization is 418. The total score for content is 439. The total score for vocabulary is 438. The total score for syntax is 436. The total score for mechanics is 438. The profile of students’ writing skills in writing greeting card in state school shows that the total score for the organization is 403. The total score for the content is 375. The total score for Vocabulary is 410. The total score for syntax is 393. The last is mechanics, the total score is 407. The comparison is to compare about the total amount of the five aspect. From the data above, the amount score for the private school is 2169 points and state school is 1988 points. The private school comes out with higher points than the state school. The difference amount score is 181 points. It means that students’ writing skill in writing greeting card in private school surpassed state school.
