Abstract

This study discusses an analysis of deixis used in memo writing assignment written by the tenth graders of SMK N 3 Salatiga. This study aims to determine the types of deixis and the dominant types of deixis used in writing memos made by the tenth grade students of SMK N 3 Salatiga. The objectives of the research are 1) to identify types of deixis used in memo writing assignment made by the tenth graders of SMK N 3 Salatiga. 2)to identify the most dominant deixis use in memo writing assignment made by the tenth graders of SMK N 3 Salatiga. The method in this study uses descriptive qualitative method. The object of this research is the task of writing memos by the tenth graders of SMK N 3 Salatiga. The results of this study found 147 deixis expressions. There are 95 person deixis expressions, 3 place deixis expressions, 22 time deixis expressions, 13 social deixis expressions, and 14 discourse deixis expressions. Person deixis is dominantly used in memo writing.
