Abstract

This study aims to find out the significant correlation between adversity quotient and English achievement; the significant correlation between intrinsic motivation and English achievement; and the significant correlation between adversity quotient and intrinsic motivation toward English achievement of seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 Ambarawa. This is quantitative correlational research. The participants were the seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 Ambarawa, who consisted of 32 pupils as the sample taken by using random sampling technique. While the method of collecting the primary data was questionnaires and documentation. Then, the data were analyzed using statistical analysis using the SPSS 25 for windows program with correlation Pearson’s product moment and multiple correlations. Based upon the calculation of the data, the researcher found that 1) there is a significant correlation between adversity quotient and English achievement with r-value greater than r table, r = 0.639 > 0.296 and Sig 2-tailed 0.000 < 0.05; 2) there is a significant correlation between intrinsic motivation and English achievement with r-value greater than r table, r = 0.633 > 0.296 and Sig 2-tailed 0.000 < 0.05; and 3) there is significant correlation between adversity quotient and intrinsic motivation toward English achievement with r-value greater than r table, r = 0.715 > 0.296 and Sig 2-tailed 0.000 < 0.05. Therefore, in conclusion, all null hypotheses are rejected, and all alternative hypotheses are accepted.
