Abstract

This article discusses lexical semantics , its compatibility and application in Arabic linguistics, and the Arabic linguist debates on lexical semantic terms. The lexical semantics is termed as ‘ilm al-dilalah al-Mufradatī’ in Arabic. The concepts of Isytimāl, al-taraduf, al-tadhadh, istirak al-lafdhi in Arabic linguistics are compatible with hyponymy, synonymy, antonym, polysemy and homonymy in semantics. Despite the concepts' compatibilities, there are many debates among Arabic linguists on the existence of these concepts. This article also presents these debates.
