Abstract
The objective of the study is to investigate the teaching methods used by lecturers to teach English in non-English major students. The first objective of this research is finding out teaching methods used by lecturers to teach English in non-English major students and the second objective is finding out the dominant methods were used by lecturers to teach English in non-English Department. The research was qualitative research. The subject were five lecturers who teach in non-English major at UIN Salatiga. To obtain the data, the researcher used interviews, observations, and documentation. The data was analyzed there are five lecturers with different major classes and interpreted through the qualitative procedure. The findings indicated that lecturers have some teaching methods to teach English to non-English major students, like direct teaching method, active learning method, communicative language teaching, task-based learning, and audio-lingual method. Besides that, the researcher found that the lecturer used more than one teaching method in their learning activity. They combine with some activities like games and use some social media to make learning activities not boring. The dominant methods used by the lecturer there are active learning, communicative learning method and audio-lingual method. The reason lecturers used that method is to adjust the conditions and needs of students so that learning takes place effectively and achieves learning objectives.
