Abstract
Cahayana, Erigan Dyah Arum. 2023. “THE USE OF INSIDE-OUTSIDE CIRCLE STRATEGY TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL (A Classroom Action Research at the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 3 Getasan in the Academic Year 2022/2023)”. A graduation paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Salatiga State Islamic University. Counselor: Dr. Sari Famularsih, S.Pd.I., M.A. This research aims to know the implementation of the Inside-Outside Circle Strategy in improving students’ speaking skill at the eighth grade students of SMPN 3 Getasan in the academic year 2022/2023 and to find out the result of the Inside-Outside Circle strategy in improving students’ speaking skill at the eighth grade students of SMPN 3 Getasan in the academic year 2022/2023. The research’s subject were 26 students from the Eighth Grade students in the second semester of SMPN 3 Getasan in the academic year 2022/2023. This study employed Classroom Action Research as its methodology, structured into two cycles, each comprising four steps: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The data collected for this research encompassed both qualitative and quantitative. Implementing the Inside-Outside Circle as a new strategy in the learning process was successfully improved students’ speaking abilities. Students have reduced the influence of their mother tongue and overcome grammar problems. The instrument of this research was an oral test. Based on the oral test, the pre-test and post-test mean of cycle I was 58.42 and 63.65, respectively. In cycle I, the pre-test passing percentage was 15.38%, with only four students passing, and the post-test passing percentage was 38.46%, with ten passing. The cycle II pre-test and post-test's means were 67.35 and 72.00. In cycle II, the pre-test passing percentage was 42.31%, or 11 students passed, and the post-test passing percentage was 92.31%, with 24 students passing, which exceeded the expectations of researchers and teachers, namely 85%. It is concluded that implementing the Inside-Outside Circle strategy is effective in enhancing students' speaking skills. Keywords: Speaking; Inside-Outside Circle; Strategy
