Abstract

ABSTRACT Wati, Dian Mega. 2023. The Use Of Picture Series To Improve Students’ Writing Skills In Retelling Story At The Eighth Grade Students Of SMP N 1 Bringin In Academic Year Of 2022/2023. A Graduating Paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State Islamic University (UIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Widyastuti, M.Pd. The objectives of the study are : (1) To know how is the implementation of picture series to improve writing skills in writing recount text (2) To find out how is the significant improvement of students'writing skills by using picture series for the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Bringin in academic year 2022/2023. The methodology of this research was Classroom Action Research(CAR). This research consisted of two cycles, and each cycle consisted of four steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subject of this research is VIII D Class, which consists of 33 students. The data was collected by observation, test, and documentation. The result of this research shows that there was an improvement of students’ writing skill in recount text by the use of picture series media. It shown the total of t-test in cycle I is 5,90 and the cycle II is 8.10. In the cycle I, the mean of post-test is bigger than of pre-test . The mean of post-test is 58,42 and pre-test 40,81. And in the cycle II, the mean of post-test is higger than the mean of pre-test. The mean of post-test is 75,36 and the pre-test is 63,60. It means that the use of picture series media can improve students’ writing skills learning recount text. Keywords: picture series, writing skill, recount text.
