Abstract

This research aims to identify students' difficulties while writing recount text, the cause of students' difficulties, and the teacher's solution to overcome the students' difficulties. This study was conducted at SMP Dharma Lestari with 11 students from class VIII D and one teacher. This study utilized qualitative methods to describe difficulties encountered by students while writing recount text. The researcher used documentation and interviews as data collection techniques. The researcher discovered difficulties faced by students in this study. It included content and organization, mechanics, and grammar. The causes of difficulties were that the students do not understand the material, do not follow the teacher direction, did not know the English spelling, were confused about punctuation and using capital letters, did not know the language features used, did not know how to apply simple past tense sentences, and did not know the second form of the verbs they use. Moreover, the teacher's solution was to give the assignment for students to take notes of the material, explain one by one or individually, and allow them to ask anything if they did not understand the material discussed. The objective of this research is to identify the difficulties that students faced while writing recount text, the cause of students difficulties, and the teacher solution to overcome the students difficulties. This study was conducted out at SMP Dharma Lestari with the participants of 11 students from class VIII D and 1 teacher. This study utilized qualitative methods to describe difficulties encountered by students while writing recount text. Key Word: Students’ difficulties; Writing; Recount Text.
