The research is about improving students' reading skills through word-matching games as a media of problem-based learning with the ninth-grade students at SMP N 7 Salatiga in the academic year of 2023/2024. This research answers these main questions (1) How can the word-matching game as a media of problem-based learning improve the ninth-grade students' reading skills at SMP N 7 Salatiga? (2) What is the extent of students' reading skills after using the word-matching game as a media of problem-based learning for the ninth-grade students of SMP N 7 Salatiga? The material given to the students was reading procedure texts. The object of this research was thirty-one students of the IX A class of SMP N 7 Salatiga. This research methodology was Classroom Action research (CAR), conducted in two cycles. The steps were planning, action, observation, and reflection in each cycle. The result shows an improvement in the student's reading skills using word-matching games. It can be seen from the percentage of students who passed the minimum criteria (KKM) (70.9%) in Cycle I. In cycle II, the percentage increased to 83.8%. It thus met the success criteria. The researcher concluded that employing the word matching game as a media of problem-based learning significantly improved ninth graders at SMP N 7 Salatiga's reading skills.
