Abstract
Irfanda, Rizki. 2023.The Use of Pop Songs to Teach Students’ Listening Skill (One-Grup Experimental Research of Ninth Grade Students of MTs Hasyimiyah Kalisidi, Ungaran, Semarang in the Academic Year 2023/2024). A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Islamic University of Salatiga. Counselor: Dr.Ruwandi,S.pd.,M.A. This research aimed to discover the difference in listening skills before and after using pop songs. This study was one group experimental research. The population of this research was the ninth-grade students of MTs Hasyimiyah Kalisidi. This study selected a sample of 30 students using a purposive sampling technique. The techniques of collecting data were tests. There were two tests in this research, namely pre-test and post-test. The test consists of 20 items in the form of fill-in-the-blank. The data were analyzed using a T-test by comparing pre-test and post-test. At the end of this research, the writer concluded that (1) the minimum pre-test score is 45, the maximum pre-test score is 85, the minimum post-test score is 60, and the maximum post-test is 95. From 30 students in one group experimental, the mean from the pre-test was 64, and the mean from the post-test was 78. It could be concluded that POP songs could be a new medium to teach listening skills. (2) The standard deviation in the pre-test was 11.794, and the post-test was 9.879. The error mean for the pre-test was 2.153, and for the post-test was 1.804. Because the average value of learning in the pre-test was 63.83 < 78.00, and the sig value known (2-tailed) was 0.000 < 0.05, Ho is rejected, and Ha is accepted. So, it could be concluded that there was a significant difference before and after pop songs were used.
