Abstract
This study aimed to ascertain the profile of students' narrative text writing abilities both before and after picture series instruction, as well as the degree of efficacy of picture series instruction in teaching narrative text writing to ninth-grade students at SMP Dharma Lestari during the academic year 2023/2024. A quantitative true experimental methodology was employed in this study. Two classrooms were used for the study: an experimental class and a controlled class. Written exams were used to get the data. There was a pre-test and a post-test for the test. While the control class did not receive picture series instruction, the experimental class did. The study was carried out in SMP Dharma Lestari's ninth grade. The sample consisted of 20 students from classes IX C and IX F. Class IX F, the experimental class, is taught using picture series, while class IX C, the control class, is not taught using picture series. Random sampling was used as the sample method. Also, the following procedures were used to conduct the research: administering a pre-test, implementing a treatment plan, and administering a post-test. The data were gathered and analysed using the t-test following the administration of the treatment to the experimental class and its absence to the control class. The study's conclusions demonstrated that the mean score on the pretest, which was 55, was lower than the mean score on the post-test, which was 83.5. After employing picture series to teach them the narrative text, the students' mean score rises to 28.6 points. The t-table of 2.093 is less than the t-test result of 9.79. In the interval 0.3 ≤ g ≤ 0.7, the N-gain score is 0.63 with a medium level for experimental group while the N-gain score for control group is 0.24 with a low level. This indicates that the narrative writing produced by students before and after using picture series as a teaching tool differs significantly. Students' writing assignments became more productive and pleasant when picture series were used as the medium. Keywords: Picture Series, Writing and Narrative Text
